The International Institute of Geopsychiatry aims to support research, policy, and education across geopsychiatry. These missions are underpinned by the broader goals of enhancing social justice and culturally sensitive and effective mental health interventions internationally.

Research

Through its Fellows, Emerging Academic Board, Collaborative Centres, and Partners, the International of Institute of Geopsychiatry supports and promotes work on the mental health implications of geopolitical crises, macro determinants, and local impacts. Specifically, this includes research related to the mental health effects of climate change, migration, public health crises, conflicts, and beyond. The Institute is also proud to support the journal, Geopsychiatry, edited by our Distinguished Founding President, Prof. Dinesh Bhugra CBE.

Geopsychiatry journal

Published by Elsevier, Geopsychiatry is a journal dedicated to advancing the emerging field of the same name, exploring the intersections of environmental, political, social factors and mental health. The journal aims to disseminate high-quality, Open Access research and informed opinion, while providing a platform for diverse voices from both global and local angles.

Policy

The International Institute of Geopsychiatry is committed to encouraging and advocating for cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary partnerships and policy developments to address interconnected geopolitical and mental health crises. These initiatives should be grounded in social justice and cultural sensitivity. One example of this is the Compassion, Assertive action, Pragmatism and Evidence (CAPE) Vulnerability Index, which is a global foreign policy index underpinned by the aim of improving mental health.
